In Philly hip-hop, live music has always been the gold standard. Outside of The Roots, some of our finest MCs take their sweet time getting to the recording studio. Here’s a quadruple bill that can command a stage all night: New Jersey’s Borialis just got back from touring with Arrested Development and has generated a big ol’ industry buzz. (Arrested what? They’re still around? Yep.) Also on tap: live hip-hop bands LM Mental and Dialects, plus Philly’s hip-hop, alt-soul collective, Subtle Ground. Sat., July 12, 9 p.m., $5, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.

From the mind of Samori Coles, CEO of Lil' Drummaboy Recordings, comes The Event, a monthly showcase of some of the city's most exciting indie artists -- from spoken word to hip-hop, soul to R&BB. The inaugural edition welcomes UVA, Next of Kin, Pitch Black and Zenora to the stage. Sat., July 12, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $6-$8, Aqua Lounge, 323 W. Girard Ave., 215-413-6511, www.ldbevent.com.

Do you find yourself sitting at home on Monday nights missing The Remedy? Well get up off that tush. Big Rich Medina promises to take you there with his still-newish weekly, Little Ricky’s. Monday night is still a dancefloor packer. Mon., July 14, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $5, Fluid, 613 S. Fourth St., 215-629-0565, www.fluidnightclub.com .

Tangible Truth featuring Tony Catastrophe and Tangled Thoughts take over Abilene this weekend. After opening several hip-hop shows at The TLA recently, the group was picked up to tour with the AND 1 ballers this summer. Kudos. Sat., July 12, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $5, Abilene, 429 South St., 215-922-2583.

On the boob-tube front, Drexel University’s The Avenue is airing footage from the 4th Annual B-Boy Barbecue, featuring interviews with Cornbread, live action from Prophets of the Ghetto and a look at graff writers in motion. Monday-Friday, 4 p.m., DUTV Cable 54, www.dutv.org/avenue.
