July 10-16, 2003

Considering the way that bastard July sneaked up on us -- shouldn't we get some sun in the summer? -- it'll be October before you know it, and that means another spin on the Tilt-a-Whirl that is the 215 Festival (Oct. 8 to12, if you want to schedule your pedicures now). Jonathan Lethem, A.M. Homes, George Saunders and Touré are already signed, with music from Patti Smith, Rick Moody and Neal Pollack (at least one of whom is an actual musician), not to mention a return appearance by last year's faves, The Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players. Why are we telling you all this now? Partly because people who knows things before other people are just cooler, and the world can always use more cool people, but also because this Friday gives you a chance to give to the cause in the form of a benefit show at Doc Watson's, featuring music by The Wayward Wind and readings by Iain Levison (he of the recent CP cover) and poet Michael Azreal-D, not to mention "surprise special guests" (i.e. people who weren't confirmed at press time). If you don't go, you'll never be able to tell your friends you went.
215 Festival Benefit, Fri., July 11, 9:30 p.m., $10, Doc Watsons, 216 S. 11th St., www.plainparade.org.
