Children driving you up the wall this summer? Have no fear, the Eighth Annual 76ers Summer Hoops Tour is touching down at playgrounds and recreation centers all over the tri-state area. When? Now, and continuing until the end of summer. Nope, it’s not Allen Iverson or even Aaron McKie dishing the dirt on how to throw up an alley-oop or sneak off a behind-the-back, no-look pass; it’s former 76ers All-Star World B. Free who’ll host the series of annual clinics alongside another former Sixer Ollie Johnson and front office staffers like TV play-by-play man Marc Zumoff, public address announcer Matt Cord and the always exciting voice of the Sixers radio network, Tom McGinnis. Sure the glitzy big-name players are not taking part but clinic chief World B. Free was no slouch in his b-ballin’ heyday; he still ranks 49th on the NBA’s top scoring list. The tour slam dunks its way from Pottstown and the Jersey Shore to Philly and Allentown, with a lesson in the fundamentals and a few NBA secrets alike. With no pre-registration necessary, the clinics run a full 90 minutes and are free to children of all ages. Perhaps The Answer himself will make it to one of the sessions for a lil’ practice; come on, even the team mascot Hip-Hop will be in the house! Wink, wink.
76ers Summer Hoops Tour, through August 7, various dates and times, free, 215-339-7666, www.nba.com/sixers/community/03summer_hoops_tour.html.
