Wine Rave

There are palates, and then there are palettes. The interests of wine lovers and painters do intersect sometimes: It's not unusual, of course, for the well-heeled to do the wine-and-cheese thing while perusing the latest gallery exhibition. But a "wine rave," combining wine, hors d'oeuvres, house music and painting into one event, is a new idea in these parts. Phoebe Keating (pictured) and Gina Cabell of Blue Horseshoe are looking to link up some of their "favorite things" -- the arts of the vintner, chef, musician and painter -- in order to introduce people to chef Paul Henderson's food. Joe Barker, long known for his watercolors of Philadelphia settings, and Perry Milou, a pop impressionist, will complete works at the gathering. There will be a silent auction for the paintings at the end of the evening.

The bill of fare will include international cheeses and some tastes from the regular menu. The wines had not been decided on at press time, but will almost certainly include summer-appropriate lighter styles from California, France and Italy, says Cabell. As for the music, DJs will be spinning worldbeats, with some house thrown in. It won't be "your regular old winetasting," Cabell assures.

Wine Rave, Thu., July 31, 69 p.m., $35-$40, Blue Horseshoe, 10 S. 20th St., 215-564-9910.
