"Sex, Cellulite, and Large Farm Equipment: One Girl's Guide to Living and Dying,"

Performance

River Huston doesn't mince words. Especially, and rightfully, when it comes to her own issues -- of which she has many. Variously self-identified as comedian, musician, bike messenger, marijuana farmer, reporter, poet laureate of Bucks County, audio engineer and taxi driver, Huston takes a hard and funny look at her own life and the lives of others with an eye for the most human and devastating of details. She's HIV-positive and has written, performed and lectured about it for years, gaining widespread recognition for her work, most notably for A Positive Life, a book of writings about women living with HIV and accompanying photos by Mary Berridge. Huston's third book of visually charged poetry, In Which I Lost a 1000 Lbs, is about to be published and she's the subject of a Showtime special scheduled for release this fall. Now, she's doing her one-woman show, "Sex, Cellulite, and Large Farm Equipment: One Girl's Guide to Living and Dying," as a benefit for the Writers Room of Bucks County, a nonprofit organization that publishes two magazines and provides workshops and forums for area writers of all levels of experience.

“Sex, Cellulite, and Large Farm Equipment: One Girl’s Guide to Living and Dying,” Thu., Aug. 21, 7:30 p.m., $20-$25, Pocoís Comedy Club, 625 N. Main St., Doylestown; for tickets, call 215-348-1663 or e-mail river@writersroom.net.
