Sometimes, it seems, the public needs a sort of carrot-and-stick incentive to discover more about nearby communities. And, as far as the Fishtown community is concerned, we're missing out on being part of a nascent neighborhood just because we're … well, lazy. Well, no more. With the weight of the East Girard Business Coalition behind it, the latest push towards bringing Fishtown into the spotlight is an afternoon-long showcase for its arts venues, restaurants and retailers. The list of these is long: Johnny Brenda's, the latest watering hole opened by owners of the Standard Tap; El Mercado Farmers Market; and Hip-e-chick, run by Kimberly DiJohn, who helped enthusiastically plan this daylong event. It'll "be a great opportunity for everyone to explore the new treasures along Girard Avenue and for me personally to host my biggest party ever!" she exclaims. For the record, on her stoop there'll be food, antiques, movies and live music, including a performance from Edgar Allan and the Poettes, recently declared on sabbatical (and having performed a farewell tour), but now apparently back. Or not gone yet. Go on, make it up there and give 'em a proper sendoff.
