Chief Kamachi

Hip-hop

The city is already heating up thanks to new hip-hop releases from the street-jiggy State Property and independent-minded MCs Baby Blak and The Last Emperor. Thanks to longtime local underground bricklayer Chief Kamachi, it looks like we're about to boil over. The commanding and gruff-voiced Chief honed his chops on stages here and in Europe, but this international man of mystery has yet to make his full-length debut. (He is, however, on the verge of releasing one too many 12-inches or guesting too often on somebody else's release.) Hungrier fans' best hope -- and a risky proposition these days -- is clicking away and digging deep for classic Kamachi gems on Internet file-sharing sites. Or they can settle for a lengthy and lethal performance at Silk City. Also on the bill: local producer and artist King Honey, "Current" resident DJs dev79 and the slug crumbs, Frankford's The Illustrators and Brooklyn's Heat Sensor.

Thu., Sept. 25, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., $3, Silk City, Fifth and Spring Garden sts., 215-592-8838.
