Experience the Avenue 2003

Despite recent events, South Broad Street is much more than a place where Rush Limbaugh hangs or where local pop singers sweep off brass stars. The Avenue of the Arts has long been a Main Street where the commerce of art, new (the Wilma, The Kimmel) and old (Academy of Music, the Merriam) gets to hang out with the toniest of city restaurateurs in order to aggressively pursue the aesthetics of a growing society. Throw in a history of Mummer marching, Union Leaguers, Art Bankers and a recent build up of the street's southern half and you get a decade past that's worth celebrating. With the Ave. throwing its own party this week to mark its 10th, you're offered the chance to purchase your own passport that allows you samples at fooderies like Bliss and Zanzibar Blue, new made-up cocktails courtesy of Striped Bass, Le Bec-Fin and Alma de Cuba, and prize opportunities from neighbors like the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Tiffany & Co. and Nicole Miller. You'd be either a mean dude or a resident of Northern Liberties to want to miss the celebration.

Experience the Avenue 2003, Fri., Oct. 10, 5:30–8:30 p.m., $50, 21+, 215-731-9668.
