Edward Aldwell

classical

A concert by Bach specialist Edward Aldwell is always eagerly anticipated for the insights the pianist brings to that great master. Born in Portland, Ore., Aldwell first studied the piano in Texas, went to the venerable Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, then to the Juilliard School in New York City where he received the bachelor's and master's of science. In addition to concertizing, Aldwell teaches music theory at the Curtis Institute with particular emphasis on the formidable analytic method of Heinrich Schenker. On Nov. 9, he will begin a two-part performance of Book II of Bach's Well Tempered Clavier with the Preludes and Fugues Nos. 1–12 at Fleisher, presented by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. He'll return on the 24th to finish Book II.

Sun., Nov. 9, 3 p.m., and Mon., Nov. 24, 8 p.m.; $15 each concert, Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catharine St., 215-569-8080.
