Some parties come and go, but you can count on the old standard. The Gathering kicks off the week with its popular all-ages open-mic, open-linoleum and graf showcase alongside hosts, I-Be and DJ M-Ski. Pyrotek lights it up as this edition’s featured artist. Show and prove. Thu., Dec. 18, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., free, The Rotunda, 4012 Walnut St., 215-573-3234.

Saturday boasts a triple threat with something for everyone and a show for every budget. It was less than two years ago that the NBA All-Star game rocked the city with parties and concerts galore, and one show took the crowd to the outer limits: the old-school concert, on the last night of the festivities. A slew of that show's MCs are back in the house as Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, KRS-One, MC Lyte, Doug E. Fresh, Sweet Tee, Kurtis Blow and The Sugarhill Gang bring it back one time. Sat., Dec. 20, 7 p.m., $65, Electric Factory, Seventh and Willow sts., 215-336-2000. Or snap back to the future at DJ Meddafore's Birthday Bash at the Troc. The Legendary DJ Showtime and DJ Kwestion (the Skratch Makanik receiving the most dap lately) man the ones and twos. Onstage you got Young Zee, Jinx Da Juvy, Phar City, The Masters, Twyn Hyytaz, Diabolic, Slumlord and a few surprise guests. It's hosted by promoters Tim Savage and Stef Tataz. Sat., Dec. 20, 8 p.m., $7, The Balcony, 1003 Arch St., 215-922-LIVE. Nina Capone's Underworld Hip-Hop Showcase -- with Nina Capone, Hard Knock, Da Fam, Pitch Black, Datbawdave, The Odd Couple (Soup and Dawg), M.O.N.T.A.N.A. Blak, Hug N Da Block, Darq, 4 Stories, Raeina -- is all ages, all free and could take all night. Sat., Dec. 20, 9 p.m.-2 a.m., free, The Rotunda.

Looking into the Miss Cleo crystal ball, the next few weeks promise shows from Outerspace (the showstopping Puerto Rocks), The Roots (look out for lineup changes), Baby Blak, Lady Alma, Jean Grae, Chief Kamachi, 7L & Esoteric, Pete Rock, The Mic Sessions album release party and more.
