Doug Wamble Quartet

Jazz

Doug Wamble (pronounced WOM-bull) is that rare creature -- a musician equally inspired by Wynton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson and Ornette Coleman. Since migrating to New York in 1997, the Memphis-reared guitarist has kept a low profile but garnered heavy credentials: on Wynton's Big Train (Columbia), on Wilson's Traveling Miles (Blue Note) and in Steven Bernstein's Millennial Territory Orchestra. He's also in tight with Branford: Wamble's debut, Country Libations, was released last year on the saxophonist's indie Marsalis Music label. The album offers rootsy eclecticism, warm experimentalism and a small surprise: Wamble's piercing singing voice, every bit as commanding as his vibrant acoustic guitar.

Fri., Jan. 30, 5-8:45 p.m., free with museum admission, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th St. and the Parkway, 215-685-7506.
