The Department of Recreation and Person-L Management think children are, you know, the future, hence Poetry and Hip Hop in Da Hood, a 20-week series of spoken word and hip-hop programs for kiddies and young adults. These educational workshops kicked off in January and culminate in June with a big ol’ talent showcase featuring the semester’s participants. Each week hosts a guest speaker or two dishing knowledge on everything from contracts to live performances to how to publish a poem or song. Open to youth and youthful folks from 13 to 25, the workshops strive to provide a safe environment for participants to gather and learn about the music and arts industry. This week’s guest is WKDU’s "Momma Wit Da Drama" Monica Peters and violinist/vocal instructor Owen "The Fidla" Brown.
