Jackal & Hyde

Dance/electronic

By the time all of us raging club junkies recover from the Miami Winter Music Conference, a small taste of the Sunshine State will be here waiting for us. Florida has always been the hot spot for the "funky breaks" sound with artists like DJ Icey and Rabbit in the Moon. But even though Philly clubbers are more fixated on other styles like house and drum ’n’ bass, breaks parties do indeed prevail here. (Think Discobotz, FunkRocker and Icebreaker.) But it’s time for something slightly different, so welcome the Philly debut of Florida’s Jackal & Hyde. Scott Weiser, an industrial-loving goth dude (also of Dynamix II), and Todd Walker, a Miami bass fanatic, bring a harder edge to breaks and electro. This unique merger of dark and happy breakbeats resulted in a record deal with Rabbit in the Moon’s label, Hallucination. Their live performances are notorious for high, piercing energy and staggering visuals.

Live & Direct, Fri., March 12, 10 p.m.-3:30 a.m., $15-$18, with Jackal & Hyde, Chris Gallagher, Ghost, Imri, Mass, Jason Leroy, Zero Alpha, Karoshi and Wondercat, Transit, 600 Spring Garden St., 215-925-8878, www.ticketleap.com.
