During this, women's history month, it seems fitting to revisit the Wilmington-based Smart Talk lecture series, which shares the stories of various remarkable women who have followed their own paths, albeit a bit unconventionally, and made a name for themselves.
Jane Fonda, seemingly forever in the midst of controversy, will appear this month. The Oscar-winning actress (replacing the scheduled Goldie Hawn) will share her history for a rare and insightful Evening with Jane Fonda. Notorious for her opposition to the Vietnam war, Fonda was recently in the news again due to a purported relationship with Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. John Kerry. Photographs were in circulation, one real and one fabricated, that seemed to implicate Kerry as being involved in various antiwar happenings with Fonda during the Vietnam War.
Fonda is both hated and loved by many. A few have pegged her as dangerous, and some have even called her a traitor. Yet there are others who support her, and view her antiwar efforts as acts of heroism. Chances are the audience during her lecture will reflect both views.
Jane Fonda, Wed., Mar. 31, 7:30 p.m., $10 standing room tickets only (available in person at 6 p.m. that evening), DuPont Theatre, 10th and Market sts., Wilmington, Del., 302-656-4401.
