Keith Jarrett/Gary Peacock/Jack DeJohnette

Jazz

The latest in their series of standard-bearing albums leaned a tad on the tepid side. But who cares? This trio, consisting of three of the world's greatest improvisers, shouldn't be faulted for inconsistency. In a sense, they should be applauded -- for insisting upon the in-the-moment risk that occasionally produces true gems. And even on Up for It: Live in Juan-Les-Pins (ECM), there are a few of those. What never fails is the combination of Jarrett's now-lush, now-terse lyricism, Peacock's anticipatory bass lines and DeJohnette's kaleidoscope of percussive colors. Those who caught their last Kimmel performance will remember Jarrett's transformation after his substandard piano was wheeled out and replaced during intermission: He played the second half like a man reborn, and his co-conspirators surged up with him. Here's hoping they'll all be feeling just as good Wednesday night.

Wed., April 7, 8 p.m., $30-$78, Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St., 215-893-1999.
