Equality Forum

Sure, Flyers fans have been wishing ill on Toronto this past week, but elsewhere in the city Canada's getting props for its success of a different kind: equality rights. Philadelphia's Equality Forum event (which kicked off on Monday) now reaches fever-pitch this coming week with a host of weekend events designed to air some of the talented performers and activists working hard north of the border. A few highlights: the Canadian Cabaret, which takes over the Prince Music Theater on May1, will feature musician Carole Pope (8 p.m., $15) and the B-Girlz (10 p.m., $15), the technicolor drag troupe with a pretty fine Charlie's Angels spoof (pictured). Zanna, Don't!, the Drama Desk-nominated musical, which starred Jai Rodriguez (of Queer Eye) in its off-Broadway run, premieres at the Kimmel on April 30; the cast (and Jai!) party at Shampoo that same night (9 p.m., Fri., April 30, $15, Seventh and Willow sts.). Plus there will be Chumley and Carlota "Riding the Ducks," seminars on the right to marry, the LGBT impact on the 2004 election, international issues in equality rights -- and the closing-day block party at 12th and Locust streets, which will be the place to win a trip to the frozen North itself. Brrr.
