Dishing It Out

It was a pleasure to read ["Ready For Raw?" Dish magazine, April 29]. I appreciate the recent attention shown by the City Paper to vegetarian/vegan cuisine in our city. However, your paper overlooked the only living foods restaurant (that I know of) in Philadelphia proper: The Kind Cafe in Northern Liberties.

It's difficult for people who have adopted a "raw" lifestyle, or those who are just curious, to find prepared food in the city. I'm sure they would appreciate an alternative trekking up to Arnold's (a great place, but far) or all the way up to New York City.

Editor's note

We received dozens of very similar e-mails. Kind Cafe, which has some raw-food items on its menu, was mentioned in the article and was recently profiled in Grow magazine.

Kerry Good/Kerry Bad

Regarding ["Echoes of War," Helen i-lin Hwang, April 22, 2004], it should surprise no one that Sen. John Kerry stabbed the Vietnamese community in the back. He did the same to an entire generation of Vietnam Era veterans in 1971.

The Village Voice ran a piece on Kerry several months ago clearly outlining his backstabbing of MIAs and POWs. He's voted against military pay increases 12 times over the last 10 years.

More disturbing, this guy can't even give anyone a straight answer regarding why he voted for the war in Iraq. Just as disturbing, he can't give a straight answer about anything, including answering a simple question regarding what type of vehicles he drives or whether he threw his own military ribbons or medals away.

The Vietnamese community is right about Kerry. He has a history of stabbing people in the back for political gain.

Kerry's scary.

This group needs to widen their scope. If they like to eat fish, re-electing Bush will make fish INEDIBLE. He intends to lower the pollution standards for mercury for his greedy corporate buddies. Fish sellers can't even tell you what the fish they are selling is fed. Some fish do not eat grain and are fed ocean scraps loaded with mercury. Mercury is nothing to play with -- it is suspected of causing birth defects and autism, compromising immune systems and other diseases, as well as annoying allergies, sinus problems, chronic pain and fibromyalgia. For years mercury was used in vaccines as a preservative. Bush also intends to rip up Alaska for oil and destroy the habitat for thousands of creatures and contribute to more air pollution and global warming. Australian students today have to wear long sleeves because of rising skin-cancer rates. Maintaining the earth is a PRIORITY. I would like to see more media coverage on his documented budget intentions, like less money for schools and more for space exploration, as well as coverage on the book Strategic Ignorance. Anyone that pulls the lever for Bush is as idiotic as he is.
