More stuff going on this week...
Here's your chance to snatch up that studio shot of Jean Harlow or Mae West for your favorite cinephile. "Glamour!: Photographs From Hollywood's Golden Age" is an exhibition and sale of original studio photographs of stars from the '20s, '30s and '40s everyone from Joan Crawford (scary!) to Clark Gable (sexy!) to Lucille Ball (wacky!). Through July 31, Calderwood Gallery, 1622 Spruce St., 215-546-5357.
InLiquid's on its fifth Art for the Cash Poor, and this year's event promises equal amounts of food, beer, art and live entertainment. All artwork from jewelry and clothing to photography and painting falls into the $150 or less category (see, you're not that cash poor). Festivities also include three bands (Elevator Parade, Golden Ball and This Radiant Boy) and two DJs (Erica and John from Spaceboy). Sat., June 12, 1-8 p.m. (art sale 1-6 p.m.), Skytop Rover Co., 1045-49 Sarah St. (corner of Sarah and East Wildey sts., between Girard Ave. and Columbus Blvd., Frankford Ave. and Shackamaxon St.), 215-592-1310 , www.inliquid.com.
Approximately 200 writers and writers in the making will converge on the Holiday Inn this weekend to find out what it means to "Write for Your Life." That rather dramatic imperative is the theme of this year's 56th annual Philadelphia Writers' Conference. Speakers and workshop leaders include Rachel Simon (Riding the Bus With My Sister) and William Lashner (Past Due). The registration fee is hefty, but with this level of talent on board to help, it should all pay off in the end. June 11-13, $195, Holiday Inn, Fourth and Arch sts., 215-782-3288, www.pwcwriters.org.
Puppet Uprising is throwing its fourth "Birthday Breakdown" this weekend at the Rotunda. DJ Shoddypuppet will host the affair, introducing performances by The Reflectors, Kelly Nesbitt, Anthony Heard and Dante Brown, Kim Mandel, Strike No Strike Productions, Yours Truly and DJ Philomena. Walk away with a souvenir from the Cheap Art Bazaar: posters from the likes of Bread & Puppet, Le Petit Théâtre de l'Absolu and the very first Puppet Uprising will be on sale. Fri.-Sat, June 11-12, 7:30 p.m., free, Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St., 267-235-5968.
