A prolific soul, Ferrick has put out a record a year since her '94 major-label debut. The New England native pulls a Princelike move for the stripped down The Other Side, handling everything from production to playing every instrument (save for one teensy cameo by Teddy Goldstein). Ferrick's knack for onstage spontaneity will be put to good use tonight, as this grrl's show includes an informal Q&A session.
Thu., June 10, 8:30 p.m., $20, Tin Angel, 20 S. Second St., 214-928-0770.

Led by guitarist/singer-songwriter Joshua Komorowski, this retro-named Philly-based collective (which spends a good part of its time in Austin, Texas) melds everything from funky radio pop to Americana hooks, sometimes with a string section. Onstage, the band currently at work on an indie CD is known for throwing in some well-chosen, pure-pop covers, like the Beatles' "And Your Bird Can Sing."
Fri., June 11, 9 p.m., $8, Tin Angel, 20 S. Second St., 214-928-0770.

Another one of those awareness-raisers/moneymakers for Democratic hopeful John Kerry. The Brazen Hussies (half of Full Frontal Folk and all Acoustic League of Justice), Sherry Somach, Saul Broudy and Psych-a-billy lead the charge, with more joining daily.
Wed., June 16, Finnigan's Wake, Third and Spring Garden sts., 215-574-9317.

OK, be honest. Do you think this Pixies reunion tour is overblown and too little, too late? Or are you antsy waiting till their December gig for your fix of quirky college rock? If so, head to The Khyber on Sunday where Chicago's Detachment Kit is sure to kick up a frenzy of oddball lyrics, speak-to-scream vocals and gritty riffs. It's in a contemporary post-hardcore context, but the same exact stuff made Frank Black, et al., stand out of the pack back in the day.
Sun., Jun. 13, 9 p.m., $8, with We Ragazzi, American Altitude and The Vanishers, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.

At last, concerts are back at the Art Museum! Wrembel, a regular at the Django Reinhardt festival, maintains the gypsy jazz tradition so strictly that his band even carries the Hot Club de France name.
Wed., June 16, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th St. and the Parkway, 215-763-8100.
jazzWith Lift: Live at the Village Vanguard (Sunnyside), the tough young tenor takes another step into the spotlight. Few saxophonists today have his range or a band this sharp.
Fri., June 11, Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th St. and the Parkway, 215-763-8100.
