Is the rave scene dead? As we once knew it, absolutely. And at this point in time, good riddance! But what about going to clubs and dancing your ass off to house, trance, drum "n' bass, hip-hop, whatever? Is that dead? Fuck no. The Local 13 crew was once the local kingpin behind Philly's ravey-gravy monster events. (Think Whistle, April Foolz, Let's Start Dancing, Mango and the previous Bang parties.) But times have changed, and so have the ravers and club-goers of Local 13's heyday. After a hiatus long enough for some of us to have since gotten married and pump out a kid or two of our own, Local 13 returns with another indoor/outdoor mega-event with four rooms of dance music. Sure, bring your glowsticks and get your rave-on — if that's your thang. (There sure isn't anywhere else in Philly to do that.) But this time around, it's more developed and mature than what a rave used to be. This is contemporary club culture. Maybe this is a new beginning to a new dimension of club-life in Philadelphia. And maybe once again, Local 13 is at the helm of a much-needed awakening. (17 to enter/21 to drink. Going from 9 p.m.-6 a.m.)
