Local kids with a taste for adventure can travel the world this summer without ever leaving Philadelphia. All they have to do is check out the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology's Summer Magic 2004 Performance Series. The dance, storytelling and music series kicked off last week with an Afro-Latino musical workshop led by the Peruvian ensemble Katari, and will continue in upcoming weeks with a Chinese dance performance by Yu Yang, a concert by the Women's Sekere Ensemble (a sekere is a dried, beaded gourd, used for percussion), storytelling from ancient Egypt and much more. After each of the Wednesday morning performances, kids and their minders are encouraged to explore the museum's rich permanent collections. Have fun, and please don't feed the foo lions!
Summer Magic 2004 Performance Series, Weds. through Aug. 18, 10:30 a.m., free with museum admission of $5-$8, University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 3260 South St., 215-898-4015 ext. 9 (for information and to preregister).
