Modest Proposals

square Ladies in Red

"I think there should be a state law requiring this, and all single women should voluntary agree to do this: Wear a very large red hat every time they go out in public so single men can see them a half-block away. [That way], we won't be following married women and talking to them. I'm also trying to improve on all single women's brain problem. They're antisocial and never talk to single men in public."
Roger, Kensington Avenue, via U.S. Mail

Feeling Roger's pain — and appreciating the fact that he doesn't seek other sorts of single women on Kensington Avenue — we took his thoughts straight to Harrisburg to find out whether his dream could become reality."While the proposal certainly has merit and we would encourage single women who are interested in meeting men to wear red hats to make spotting them easier," says Chuck Ardo, spokesman for Gov. Ed Rendell, "it is doubtful that such a proposal elevates itself to the level of legislation." Sorry Rog!
