BLUES/BLUEGRASS
Mythology springs to mind when pondering David Bromberg. He embodies the guitar god, not only a master of his instrument but a masterful presence as well. In his youth Bromberg moved quickly from lead guitarist for Jerry Jeff Walker to headlining the Folk Festival, fronting a band that performed bluegrass and blues with equal facility. During the touring years he played numerous recording sessions with other legends: Willie Nelson, Dylan, Commander Cody, Bonnie Raitt and Rory Block among them. When the road grew stale Bromberg tossed it over for violin school, which let him pick for pleasure rather than livelihood. These days anybody with the temerity can share that pleasure, picking with Bromberg any Tuesday at 4W5 Café, adjacent to his violin shop in Wilmington. Or enjoy the quartet in a more formal setting at Concerts under the Stars.
Sun., Aug. 1, 7 p.m., $10, Concerts Under the Stars, 175 W. Valley Forge Rd, King of Prussia, 610-265-1071, www.umconcerts.org.
