spoken word
A group that consists of three poets and one MC, Just Us is spoken word with a purpose. With a drive to resurrect the community spirit, longtime friends Adam Mikael, Just Greg, Eternalthought and Escone decided to fuse their individual talents together for a change. Their virgin effort on the spoken-word scene, Just Us Is Served, released on Sept. 7, is packed with political and social messages that target the younger and older generations. "We chose to use spoken word/rap, because we feel hip-hop is one of the strongest influences around the world," says Escone. Every song has a little touch of their personal experiences, which they use as a common ground to connect with the people. Since their creation earlier this year, they have stayed busy, performing at venues in Massachusetts and California. They want the album to deliver the hope that as a community, we can and will do better.
Just Us Release Party/Open Mic, Fri., Sept. 17, 9 p.m.-1 a.m., $5-$7, with Blue Zion Band, Antoinette Green, Malik Long, Friends Neighborhood Guild, Seventh and Fairmount sts., 267-258-5709.
