It takes two to tango, right? Well, in the case of Tango Pasiín, two is just a starting point. Don't be getting any kinky ideas; it's just that this company has so many talented tangoists that it can fill an entire stage with couples performing the official dance of seduction. Gals in dangerously high heels perform scabrous scissor kicks while gents play it cool, swiveling their hips and pattering their feet as if to say, "I may be interested, but I'm gonna play the hard-to-get game all the same."
This program presents two different acts of flash-and-dash dirty dancing. Act 1, based on an opera by Astor Piazzolla, concerns the story of Maria de Buenos Aires. Set amid the smoky cafes of turn-of-the-century Argentina, it tells the tale of the multifaceted Maria, apparently quite a femme fatale, who had her share of livin' and lovin'. Act 2 presents a series of contemporary tango selections. There's plenty of passion paired with dramatic, sometimes humorous and always entertaining scenarios. Beyond that, the technical expertise and coordination of the players is truly eye-popping. Live music provided by the formidable Grammy-winning Sexteto Mayor Orchestra adds additional authenticity, and the whole event adds up to a cool, sexy Sunday afternoon delight.
Tango Pasión, Sun., Oct. 3, 2 p.m., $30-$68, Kimmel Center, 300 S. Broad St., 215-893-1999.
