Ladybug Mecca

Soul/Hip-Hop

Here's some good news to jump-start your '90s hip-hop nostalgia: Digable Planets' original three members, including mellow tone MC Ladybug Mecca, have reunited. After winning a Grammy for her role on the hit single "Rebirth of Slick (Cool like Dat)," Ladybug ventured out solo, selling herself as a multilingual songstress, while incorporating the flow that made her a bona fide leader of the female hip-hop movement. We'll have to wait a while to see the Planets aligned again, but this solo performance from Ms. Mecca should whet our whistles: Tonight, OkayPlayer turns its monthly platform into an ode to the ladies of hip-hop and soul. The mistress of ceremonies is none other than radio pioneer Lady B. In addition to Ladybug Mecca, she'll welcome back OkayPlayer vets Jean Grae and Tanzania. Ladies first, ladies first!

Thu., Nov. 18, 8 p.m., $10-$15, with Young Lao, Ryva, Jean Grae, Tanzania, DJ Ultraviolet and DJ Sesi, Grape Street Pub, 4100 Main St., 215-483-7084.
