It's been a year since Cover Your Lover—led by founder/director/beloved City Paper music critic Deesha Dyer—started spreading its safe-sex and AIDS-education messages to the hip-hop crowd. Time to celebrate with food, music and prizes. Reef the Lost Cauze, Side Effect (pictured), Tanzania and the Ill Vibe Collective provide the soundtrack, while Stef Tatas and Los Infinite do the hosting.

Year two looks like it's going to be a step up for CYL's operation according to Dyer, who says she gets stopped in the street by people asking if she's got supplies. There'll be a new Web site, more informational literature and a wider network where CYL packets will be available.

So tonight's a party, but CYL never rests, so there will be plenty of condoms and leaflets, and you better believe the proceeds go to HIV/AIDS outreach programs in Philly.

Cover Your Lover First Anniversary Party, Thu., Dec. 16, 9:30 p.m., $10 ($8 if you wear a red ribbon), Upstairs at the Five Spot, 5 S. Bank St., 267-243-1896.
