She hasn't put out an album in six years, but Happy Rhodes still has a firm grasp on her Philly fan base. The 39-year-old singer/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist who's been compared to everyone from Kate Bush to Portuguese fado singer Cristina Branco is known for melding folk with ambient/electronic sounds, something that sets her apart from the current girl-with-a-guitar crowd. With her four-octave range and quirky songwriting style, Rhodes is charmingly (and doggedly) original.
