Phoenix

Rock/pop

This sunny Paris pop quartet has the courage to be a sunny Paris pop quartet — does that make them a French Steely Dan? Totally, but that's not a slag. Since their 2000 debut LP United (which included "If I Ever Feel Better," arguably the best song ever written), Phoenix's bittersweet kitsch-beyond-kitsch melodies and so-called cheesy '80s fetishism have put the band on the mainstream shortlist of Cool French Things: Air, Daft Punk, french fries and naturally, The French Connection. Sorry, French Kicks. In addition to the 2004 party album Alphabetical, Phoenix will play songs from their latest release Live! Thirty Days Ago (Astralwerks), which culls the band's Scandinavian concert cuts from late last year.

Fri., April 1, 8 p.m., $13-$15, with Dogs Die In Hot Cars and Long-View, Theater of Living Arts, 334 South St., 215-922-1011.
