comedy

"Why did Madonna feed her infant baby Alpo dog food?" asks the perspiring, sad-sack comedian in the ill-fitting tux.

Silence is the reply.

"She had no choice, that's just what came out of her breasts!"

More silence.

The bombing-on-purpose comedy of Neil Hamburger hasn't evolved much over the years, but when you suck — and you're supposed to suck — how can you improve on that? Still, the whole awkward, gross-out schtick wouldn't warrant repeat servings without the occasional Hamburger helper. Hence his latest CD, Great Moments at DiPresa's Pizza House (Drag City), an audio mockumentary about the fictional pizzeria where the standup performed regularly. The anecdotes are drenched in death and delusion and health-code violations, providing a for-real funny framework around Hamburger's ever-flowing flop sweat. Want more Hamburger? Besides his Khyber gig, WYBE's wrapping up its run on Left for Dead in Malaysia, an 11-minute film that has Hamburger doing his act before a non-English-speaking audience. He goes over just as well.

Neil Hamburger, Thu., May 12, 9 p.m., $8, with Pleaseeasaur and Make a Rising, The Khyber, 56 S. Second St., 215-238-5888.

Left for Dead in Malaysia, Thu., May 12, 9:47 p.m., and Sat., May 14, 1:47 p.m., WYBE-TV Ch. 35.
