Plan-It-X Festival
punk/folk/activism
Lollapalooza had its moment in the mud and South by Southwest is big like Godzilla, but all your inner DIY punk wants to do is feel the love at Plan-It-X Fest. The premise: A ton of punk bands from around the country pack into a school bus and hit the road for 31 days of rock, kickball and flea marketing. Plan-It-X Records, a Bloomington, Ind., institution that sells CDs for $5 and preaches community before commodity, is responsible for the madness. What about the music? Erin Tobey's sweet la-la shit melts hearts while This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb explodes into a haze of punk-country fury. And there're 10 other bands to take in including Kimya Dawson (pictured) for the Philly date only so buck up. Let the scent of rock-fantasy fulfillment lure you to sweaty West Philly like a Perry Farrell peace pipe.
Sun., June 26, $10 (proceeds partially benefit Lancaster Avenue Autonomous Space), noon kickball and potluck picnic, 2 p.m. workshops, park off Powelton near 39th Street; 3:45 film and flea market, 5-11:30 p.m. music, The Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St.; www.hellomermaid.com/pixfest.
