Your Choice, Your WawaDANCE/SIZZLI
You want Kate "Wawa" Watson-Wallace to continue, right? To keep bringing her twisting choreography to the Fringe Festival, multimedia events thrown by Dirty Dave P. and GONE at the Five Spot? Then pay up, suckers. In order to produce The Mentalist, her 2005 Fringe performance installation at the Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church, she's going to need money. The piece, which includes Linda Smyth costumes, graffiti art and "video painting," is slated for a September unveiling; hence, the urgency of tonight's What Should I Name My Dance Company? party at Fluid. "The benefit is partially to raise money for the show," says Watson-Wallace, "but it's also to find a name for my company. I've been doing the choreography thing for a while. Independently. Now I'm starting a real company with dancers and all that making it official. "While the event borrows talent from The Mentalist including dancers, designs from street taggers and a tonsorial fashion show featuring the extravagant hair designs of Tracey Olkus it also showcases all-female hip-hop dance company Montazh, performers Bethany Formica and Heather Murphy and Town Jewelers DJs Diabolic, Opal and Steve. Those feeling creative will be pleased to know that whoever suggests the winning name of the company will get two free tickets to the show.
What Should I Name My Dance Company?, Thu., Aug. 18, 10 p.m.-2 a.m., $10, Fluid, 613 S. 4th St., www.fluidnightclub.com.
