NOW SEATING
Positano Coast, 212 Walnut St., 215-238-0499
This 12-year-old seafood outpost underwent massive renovations and now boasts hand-painted tiles and furniture imported direct from the Italian coastal town Positano. Newly redesigned windows lend the second-floor establishment an open-air appeal and the retooled small-plate menu bursts with regional specialties like short ribs, shellfish and crudo. Bite This: Behold, the best starter ever: fried whole calamari stuffed with cheese, spinach and garlic. Your breath will stink, your soul will smile and you'll be full for weeks.
Roller's Restaurant, 8142 Germantown Ave., 215-247-0707
Owner Paul Roller (who also runs Roller's Express-O and Roller's Market) has played musical chairs with this eater, originally located in Top of the Hill Plaza; it's now thriving down the block at the former location of Flying Fish, a Roller-owned seafood spot that closed three years ago. With a quaint dining area and tables looking on to the bustling avenue, Roller's has been more accessible to foot traffic since reopening earlier this month. Bite This: In a salute to the fallen Fish, Roller is adding Jamaican shrimp and seafood pot pie to the menu.
Waiting List
Gayle, 617 S. Third St.
Daniel Stern, former executive chef at Le Bec-Fin, has announced plans for a casual American restaurant in the space formerly known as Azafran, a South American BYOB that closed its doors in late August following owner Susanna Goihman's troubles. An opening date has not yet been set.
Rumjungle, The Pier at Caesars, Atlantic City, N.J.
Best known for the reality show The Restaurant and his legal battles with foppish attention-whore Rocco DiSpirito, Bucks-bred mogul Jeffrey Chodorow is now opening Rumjungle all island rhythms and tropical cuisine as part of an enormous expansion project set to open in early 2006. If you're wasted on comp Borgata drinks and start craving Philly flavors, unleash a slurred hurrah: Steven Starr is opening Buddakan and Continental locations on the Pier as well.
