Top 5 Jersey Eats ( Diners are Verboten )1 The Pub
7600 Kaighns Ave., Pennsauken, 856-665-6440
This medieval fortress/restaurant seats almost 500 and serves platters fit for horses. Meat dishes line one side of the menu; seafood, the other. The ultimate surf-and-turf combo features a giant lobster tail with filet mignon. Pricey, but it'll last you through winter.
2 Franco's
67 Ellis St., Haddonfield, 856-857-9889
This pizza parlor, aka "home of the original panzarotti," just moved its inside-out pizza-pocket operation one PATCO stop farther from Philly. But the recipe's worth the extra trip: oozing mozzarella and tomato sauce (with mushrooms, meat and other fillings) cuddled together in a sweet envelope of deep-fried dough.
3 Bombay Cuisine
2389 Rt. 70 West, Cherry Hill, 856-773-1200
Tucked behind a seedy Howard Johnson's, this Indian restaurant is all glass and alluring spices overlooking the Cooper River. Small but delicious portions of lamb, seafood, chicken (try the tikka masala) and vegetarian dishes come at a nice price. For optimum eating-to-paying ratio, call beforehand for the buffet schedule.
4 Roney's
50 Haddon Ave., Collingswood, 856-854-9746
This former cheapie burger joint serves coffee and greasy food (think Big "R" Hamburger and "breakfast on a bun") any time of night. Nothing on the menu costs more than six bucks. There are 14 stools, one table and a tiny TV. Roney's says it's a "restaurant," but we just call it cute as a button.
5 Weber's Famous Root Beer
6019 Lexington Ave., Pennsauken, 856-662-6632
New Jersey doesn't hand out drive-in licenses anymore, so hit this little roadside marvel while it's hot. (It closes at the end of October and reopens in March.) Here's what happens when you park: A carhop takes your order and brings you root beer, hot dogs and burgers on a tray that attaches to your car window. On Sundays, an Elvis impersonator wiggles near the highway.
