Mortal Combat

FIGHT NIGHT

Reality Fighting in … Jersey? Sure, you could scope a tussle between Eagles and Giants fans at any watering hole in Camden, but it's just a matter of time before the cops get involved. Here, all that bare-knuckled fury is legal. "It's no rules, no holds barred," says fighter Dante Rivera, who will be competing for the middleweight championship opposite Jerry Spiegel at the North American Grappling Association's Reality Fighting X event this weekend. The fights on the card feature mixed martial arts with grapplers using boxing, wrestling, jujitsu and just about anything else that involves pounding someone with fists and feet. Surely Rivera's background comes in handy when negotiating at his day job. "I'm a car salesman," he says. "Fighting is my main job, but I do this a couple days a week, you know, instead of just sitting around the house." The 31-year-old Rivera has yet to suffer any serious injuries in eight professional fights and has only chalked up one loss. "My long-term goal is to be considered one of the best in the world."

Reality Fighting X, Sat., Nov. 19, 7 p.m., $52.50, Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, N.J., 860-632-2753, www.realityfighting.tv.
