Edward R. Murrow's beatification was cemented long before his life was transferred to film; and George Clooney established his limo-lib credentials in plenty of time to get flogged by Team America last year. So the only person who really ends up benefiting from Good Night, And Good Luck. is Dianne Reeves, who pops up from time to time in the role of "Jazz Singer." It's never clear which, if any, actual performer she's portraying, though the period and Reeves' natural similarities might suggest Sarah Vaughan. Even less clear is why the hell she's in there at all, given the unlikely proximity of the recording studio to Murrow's newsroom and the lack of any thematic significance to the songs, but Reeves' warm caress of a voice is always welcome. Especially so on a wintry December eve, when the singer will be performing her gently swinging takes on holiday fare, from last year's Christmas Time Is Here.
