Top 5 Hangover-Curing Brunches

1 Bridget Foy's
200 South St., 215-922-1813

The regular Sunday brunch at Bridget's turns into a pajama party on New Year's Day as servers and customers don their finest sleepwear. The cozy, Old-World atmosphere comes cheap (stuffed French toast is $10 and the California crab burrito only $14), and the headache-obliterating $6 Red Rooster blend of tequila, ruby red grapefruit juice and lime is all the reason you need to crawl out of bed before noon. Reservations are recommended.

2 South Street Diner
140 South St., 215-627-5258

Few things take the edge off faster than a hearty breakfast of steak and eggs. Down the block from Bridget's, South Street diners can bemoan the previous night's follies beneath the inviting glow of Tiffany lamps and festive evergreen wreaths. The standard hot cakes, waffles and omelets are served in generous portions with belly-stuffing sides of home fries or grits.

3 Silk City Diner
435 Spring Garden St., 215-592-8838

A landmark destination for the party crowd, Silk's giant waffles or huevos rancheros are guaranteed to quell late-night hunger pangs. The specials board by the front door is not to be missed, and there's not a better Lime Rickey in all of Northern Liberties.

4 Lucy's Hat Shop
247 Market St., 215-413-1433

Lucy's Drunken Monkey Brunch is the best way for schmucky designated drivers to catch up on the cheap. Twenty dollars buys a buffet of eggs, breakfast meat, waffles and unlimited booze. (Throw in an extra $10 for an all-day pass to debauched drunkenness.) The all-you-can-drink mimosas and domestic drafts are intoxicating, of course, but the real capper is the create-your-own Bloody Mary bar, replete with horseradish, Worcestershire and freshly cut celery sticks.

5 International House of Pancakes,
Various locations, www.ihop.com

IHOP is hell for anyone with a hangover, but look on the sunny-side up: It's a great place for kids (assuming you remembered to pick them up from the babysitter) with options like pigs in a blanket or a funny face chocolate chip pancake, swimming in the rascals' choice of five flavored syrups (maple, strawberry, blueberry, boysenberry and butter pecan).
