Dirty Calendar for Neighborhood Cleanup? When it comes to fundraising, it's often in the best civic interest to flash a great set of cans. On Feb. 11 at Indre Studios (1418 Darien St.), the Ladies of Benna's Cafe 2006 Calendar will be unveiled to civic-minded attendees who will enjoy free beer, food and music.
Most of the proceeds from the event and the $20 calendars will be donated to Passyunk Square Civic Association. PSCA is trying to get street cleaning, which was cut in 2002, back in the area between Sixth and Broad streets and Tasker and Washington avenues, which is gathering trash and debris.
SMOKIN': Benna's gal Nicole gets frank.

The idea for the calendar, says Nancy Trachtenberg, owner of Benna's (at Eighth and Wharton streets), was born when "a bunch of guys were sitting at the bar at the cafe, basically objectifying the female clientele. This calendar is basically to satisfy the PG-13 fantasies of the clientele." Trachtenberg says, "The idea came first from fun and novelty, then the realization came that this had to be for a good local cause instead of profit."
The locals pitched in as well. The ladies were photographed by Michael Persico, and prepped by makeup artist Dawn Troccoli, both of whom provided their talents gratis. Geoff Dimasi, owner of P'unk Ave, a multimedia design company, laid out the calendar. For the unveiling, beer will be provided by Yards Brewing and food will be donated by Di Bruno Bros., Federal Baking Co., Chickie's Italian Deli and Whole Foods, among others. Local bands including Hoppin' John will play, and DJ Russell Alexander from Upstairs at the Khyber and Making Time will spin.
The calendar features such sorta-racy shots as Trachtenberg modeling a bikini made of bagels. "It's basically a bagel bra," she says. "They hollowed out half a bagel, strung them together with twine, and hoped for no wardrobe malfunctionswhich there were many." But, says Trachtenberg, "The wardrobe malfunctions were definitely worth it." The August spread finds her modeling a Girl Scout uniform; local chef Nicole Pogos is featured with nothing but an apron and tray of franks in July; and the classic lingerie-clad lady on a bearskin rug will open the calendar, which runs from February 2006 through January 2007.
Varying in age from 22 to 40, these hotties offer a little something for all tastes, and they're also giving it up to their community. "I think every single one of them is gorgeous," says Trachtenberg. "There are all different body types, but they are all gorgeous, and we are very grateful."
