Beautiful Disaster

benefit

You've seen Uncut Productions. Even if you know them better as the umbrella organization sheltering performance troupe The Tina Yothers Army, you've witnessed the highly dramatic terror that is Jena Serbu and Mark Dahl's lot, a group that makes kick-ass films and innovative multimedia theater events. "We love to make beauty disturbing," says Serbu of banding together Army members based on their attitudes, ingenuity and chutzpah to make short flicks and Fringe shows like Tim's Army, Eye of the Tiger and several Ritalin-based theater bits that have unveiled themselves during Uncut's half-decade of togetherness. Well, they want your money again. "The Disaster refers to the disaster that is Uncut and the havoc we reap," says Serbu of the night's benefit, which stars friends like Scott Johnson, Kimberley Tierney, Peek-a-Boo review, Sandy Beach, Melissa Joy Hart, Janice Rowland, Mathew Kenworthy and Kandy Whales. It's not just for their usual worthy cause—raising cash to fight multiple sclerosis. They need money for their 2006 Fringe show, Disaster: The Musical, and, to film Eye of the Tiger, Thrill of the Fight: The Movie, a feature-length film that attacks reality television "Philly style." "That means with violence," claims Serbu, who with the Uncut crew will take to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art starting in June and stay there, filming the "show." Until it's over. Start betting on survivors.

Funding the Disaster, Thu., April 20, 6 p.m.-1 a.m., $10-$20, Philadelphia Ethical Society, 1906 South Rittenhouse Sq., www.uncutproductions.org.
