Mike Lenert broke up Caterpillar eight years ago, but the jangly little rock band still comes round more often than Will Smith, the Red Sox and most comets. And why not? Caterpillar's as fine an example of 1990s Philly proletariat indie rock as anybody, making music for the sweat, sound and hell of it. These days, Lenert's a few credits away from becoming a full-on paleontologist or something out in Montana or someplace, but he's still making sweet guitar-pop with his mostly solo project, Lettuce Prey. Both bands will play a free show at the Millcreek on Friday, as will Lenert's old pal and ex-bandmate Gram Richmond. He's a Parisian now, but Philly was Richmond's muse back in the day (singing catchy rock numbers about KYW Newsradio and the late Philadelphia Athletics). Rounding out the bill is dirty punk band Bear Attack, who will be loud, ornery and dressed like frickin' grizzlies.
Fri., April 21, 9:30 p.m., free, with Bear Attack, Lettuce Prey and Gram Richmond, Millcreek Tavern, 4200 Chester Ave., 215-222-9194, www.millcreektavernphilly.com.
