Thrilladelphia Week Two
|
No offense to week one, but this is when the Thrilladelphia festival starts hitting you with some tough choices. Just look at Friday night, wherein The Capitol Years, Golden Ball, The Lilys and The Swimmers (pictured) all compete in head-to-head headlining spots at different venues across town. (Yeah, the first three are some of this town's most reliable rock bands, but don't discount the upstart Swimmers, whose new demo is catchy, Paul Simon-ish, '60s folk-pop.) Early Saturday (3 to 8 p.m.) is easy: Dr. Dog, The Teeth and pals play the free outdoor Philebrity Block Party (at 1021 N. Hancock St., in Northern Liberties). That night, things get interesting again. Will you choose Phil Moore Browne, Bardo Pond, Motumbo's Hospital or Yah Mos Def? I'm not gonna play favorites, but FYI: The last show's also got crumbcrushers Eyeball Skeleton. (For more on them, see p. 49.) Not to be all vote-or-die, but dammit, go see a rock show this weekend.
Thrilladelphia continues Thu.-Sat., April 27-29. For a complete schedule, see www.thrilladelphia.com.
