An explosion of naked skin and twisted silk gyrates to the sounds of Greek, Spanish, Indian, African and Middle Eastern jazz, funk and rock, all with the hope of exciting your mind, body and soul.
And that's just the first song.
"We're different because of [the] energy of our shows," says Animus bandleader and composer Bill Koutsouros.
The band's unique sound comes from its ability to play multiple forms of music, and switch almost instantaneously from one to another. This is in addition to the fact that each member can play several different instruments, including bouzoukis (Greek lute), doumbek (Middle Eastern percussion) and neys (Middle Eastern bamboo flute).
Animus live features original choreographed dances from The Philadelphia Bellydance Superstars and Rising Stars, a selection of 10 professional and student bellydancers in the Philadelphia area.
"The energy between the band and the dancers is very in synch," says PBSRS choreographer and artistic collaborator Azhia. "There is a lot of exploration."
