Singer-songwriter
Patty Larkin

"Not Bad for a Broad" was Patty Larkin's anthem in 1985, singing about the experiences of talented guitarist who happens to be a woman trying to earn her living. Things apparently haven't changed much since then, as the anthology of 14 world renowned women guitarists she produced last year, La Guitara, was trivialized by the label with a subtitle of "gender-bending strings." Larkin's performances are proof that testosterone has got nothing to do with talent and creativity.

Wed., June 28, 7:30 p.m., free, Norcross Memorial Dell, Haddon Lake Park, 13th Ave. And S. Park Ave., Haddon Heights, NJ, 856-216-2170, www.camdencounty.com

Rock/pop
DeVotchKa

With epic titles like Queen of the Surface Streets, Supermelodrama and How It Ends behind them, it's no wonder DeVotchKa's Slavic spaghetti western motifs sound so cinematic. While crooner/theremin guy/bouzouki player Nick Urata rocks a most haunted, hunted-down voice, the rest of DVK sound like Eastern-European cinematographers on a gypsy trip. Yeah, they're from Denver. And yeah, their new CD EP, Curse Your Little Heart kicks much ass. And what band this theatrical can say they kick up anything than their heels?

Thu., June 22, 9 p.m., $10, with Norfolk & Western and Swimmers, The North Star, 2639 Poplar Street, 215-787-0488, www.northstarbar.com.

cloggin'
Fiddlekicks

Appalachian clogging is breathtaking when performed by a sharp troupe; cue Fiddlekicks, the floor-blistering women from Mt. Airy. Seeing Fiddlekicks with a live oldtime band is as good as it gets. They are world class, yet you have to drive to the burbs to see "em. Ah well, it's a beautiful park, the price is right and the dance-shy should be warned that "audience participation" is on the program, so choose your rectangle of lawn accordingly.

Sun., June 25, 7:30 p.m., free, Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road, Media, PA, 610-565-7410.

all-night festival
Summer Solstice

The vernal equinox is so last season. To usher in the new one, the Kimmel Center offers up its annual celebration of the Summer Solstice with 19 straight hours of entertainment. There's a little something for everyone: an all-female Croatian a cappella group, veteran DJ and producer King Britt and lots of kid stuff. And don't forget to bring your own instrument for the sunrise drum circle. Weren't the traditional orgies and animal sacrifices getting a little old anyway?

Sat., June 24, 3 a.m.-6 a.m., $12-$15, The Kimmel Center, 260 S. Broad St., 215-893-1999, www.kimmelcenter.org.
