In the Event ThatYour Cell Phone Goes off in Church
Cell Phone Spirituality, Wed., July 19, 7-9 p.m., $25, The Health and Wellness Center at Doylestown Hospital, 847 Easton Rd., Warrington, Pa., 215-918-5500
The number one enemies of cellular phones are libraries and churches, and a surefire way to get judgmental stares is to be sitting in the front pew when your "Eye of the Tiger" ring goes off.
But Father Kevin Goodrich, an Anglican Dominican priest from Huntington Valley, Pa., and author of Cell Phone Spirituality: What Your Cell Phone Can Teach You About Life and God, wants to turn those mobiles into portable theology lessons.
"Often people of a spiritual bent see cell phones as a hindrance to spirituality and God," says Goodrich. "They certainly can be. However, in my book I grab the cell phone, which is really a metaphor for today's world, and use it as a metaphor for the spiritual life with God."
If you're getting text messages from God asking, "Where you at, Dawg?" then maybe this signing and workshop is right for you. The session is aimed at "helping people connect with the reality that God is constantly trying to make contact with them and build a relationship," says Goodrich.
Let's hope doing so doesn't rack up a lot of roaming charges.
