The two Death Unit songs you'll find posted on Brainwashed.com are labeled "AIDS Death 666" and "Smut." DU's electronics manipulator Carlos Giffoni, though, simply refers to them as "Untitled 1" and "Untitled 2." He has no idea where the more colorful names originated, but probably shouldn't be surprised that the swirling, rumbling assaults that he creates inspire such heartwarming imagery. Giffoni is the founder of No Fun Fest, the Brooklyn noise gathering that challenges the senses annually with three nights of atonal sorcery. Giffoni's own tuneless tunes combine his analog electronics with guitarist Brian Sullivan to create a precision-tooled wall of noise behind which drummers Chris Corsano and Trevor Tremaine rumble, like thunder heard from within the confines of a factory floor. An Eraserhead factory floor at that. In contrast, Robert Beatty's solo electronic experiments (under the name Three Legged Race) are a more serene affair, drones and repetitions sounding like an animatronic gamelan ensemble.
