Bob, Nose and El Toro are gentlemen of leisure. Stroll down any thoroughfare in Philly, and you're bound to spot them chillaxin' on everything from stop signs to Amoroso's trucks to City Paper boxes.
Since renegade street art is about as legal as doing blow off the Liberty Bell, it's understandable that the minds behind these characters keep their identities shrouded. Starting this weekend, however, they'll receive some well-deserved shine at "Familiar Faces," a show celebrating the mysterious triumvirate's contributions to local art and culture.
The exhibit is an opportunity for the artists to prove that their talent extends beyond stickers. Each has created a series that displays their alter ego in new waysexpect pieces on canvas, trashed wood and empty cans.
Regardless of their newfound elbow room, the artists are still enamored with the breakin'-the-law rush. "This has given us hours to work on each piece," says Bob's creator, a graduate student at Philadelphia University. "But I still prefer the excitement of the illegal artwork more."
