Naked City : Paper Trail

Paper Trail

Our Back Pages, One Year At A Time

1997

Let's all take a step back, shall we? To 1996. In our rush through the back issues, we missed something. Big. Twice. In 1996, founder, publisher, editor, all-around busybody Bruce Schimmel, Brucey, the Bruceatolla, made like The Who and sold out — to Art Howe's Montgomery Newspapers. The final installment of "Publisher's Clearinghouse" was a Dear John letter of sorts: "By the time you read this ..." We also missed the maiden byline of one Patrick Rapa, a 157-word concert preview that garnered two angry letters to the editor, which is some kind of record.

We're counting down (or up) to our 25th anniversary. Next week: 1998! Wally Kennedy! Heroin Highway! Pirate Radio! Inky and the church!
