Funk Master Flex Custom Car and Bike Show, Sat., Sept. 9, noon-8 p.m., $25-$30, Atlantic City Convention Center, 1 Miss America Way, Atlantic City, N.J., 1-800-736-1420

Think your footwear collection is up to snuff? Prepare to be humbled. Sneaker Pimps, the world's largest touring rare shoe and street art exhibition, is coming to Atlantic City on Sept. 9 as part of Funk Master Flex's annual car show.

The tour, which boasts more than 1,000 pairs of one-of-a-kind designs, celebrates all aspects of sneaker culture. The face behind the laces is Peter Fahey, who parlayed his love for hard-to-find kicks into an international affair: He's rocked events on four continents.

Fahey invited a number of well-known artists to create original designs for the tour, an approach that has inspired some truly innovative work.

"Some [artists] have never painted on shoes before," says Fahey. "It's a completely new canvas for them." In addition to photography and fashion displays, the show will also feature live work by graf legend T. Kid and tattoo artist B.J. Betts.

While sneaker hoarding may come off as a true heads-only hobby, Fahey thinks anyone who appreciates art can glean something from the experience. "We've had people as young as 4 and as old as 80, and every single one is excited," he says. "You don't have to be into hip-hop to be into shoes."
