Mugshots
110 Cotton St., Manayunk, 215-482-3964

Fairmount's favorite cup-o'-joe stop extended into the hills a little over three weeks ago. It's similar in size to the original Mugshots, but the seating area is set back from the bar and kitchen to provide a quieter sippin' experience. Co-owner Jill Fink says 'Yunkers are really taking to their menu offerings, which rely on many locally grown products. Bite This: They've added a slew of new smoothies to the menu, including the Venice Island, a strawberry, banana, OJ, honey and yogurt combo.

Grocery
101-105 S. 13th St., 215-922-5252

This affordable gourmet venture co-owned by Lolita's Valerie Safran and Marcie Turney will be fully open by Sept. 5, but the cafe's currently serving great word of mouth. Turney, who also doubles as Lolita's head chef, makes everything from bagels to pastries to brekkie sandwiches. The market will offer cold-case versions of popular Lolita fare and grilled flatbread dishes. Bite This: The Cuban Media Noche combines rotisserie turkey, cured ham, jack cheese, cucumber and jicama slaw on a ciabatta roll.

Soy Cafe
Second St. and Fairmount Ave.

The location that housed the defunct Pond Cafe has been vacant since June, prompting the block-away Soy Cafe (821 N. Second St.) to pounce on the property. The larger space means Soy will have its own entrance (it currently shares with Ironworks Gym), a cozier atmosphere and a backyard garden for patrons. Staffers hope to make it more of a hangout, and less of a takeout joint. Opening is set for late September/early October.

Kitchen 223
223 Haddon Ave., Haddon Heights, N.J.

This American bistro should up the ante for all South Jersey grubholes lacking in the innovation department. Former Starr chef Christopher Painter (Tangerine, Angelina) will serve as executive chef, crafting Euro-influenced plates for pairing with 223's promising wine list. Look for an opening toward the middle of September. Bite This: Painter's braised veal short ribs will be served with homemade gnocchi and roasted celery root.
