Sunday City Skate Sun., Aug. 27, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Philadelphia Museum of Art, 26th St. and the Parkway, www.landskaters.org
Kick out the rolly-jams with Philly's Landskaters, a local club that brings together in-line enthusiasts of all skill levels. Advanced skaters meet every Tuesday at the Art Museum, intermediate folks do a 10- to 12-mile sojourn on Sunday mornings, and if you're just getting into the sport, Landskaters holds beginner "Rec Rolls" once a month.
They don't pussyfoot around, eitherthe groups, comprising anywhere from 40 to 60 skaters, roll in the streets alongside cars and bikes. Since Philly has a reputation for repugnant road etiquette, you might think these helmeted hordes have a death wish.
Not so, according to co-managing director Michael Zosa. "There's the occasional impatient driver," he explains. "But we try to stay out of people's ways."
Make all the '90s cracks you want, but rest assured in-line hasn't gone the way of Melrose Place. "[Interest] dropped off a little, but you still have the enthusiasts sticking with it," says Zosa.
Strap 'em on and join the fun. Zubaz pants not required.
